Leveraging technology to empower healthcare, Midea Healthcare focuses on two core areas: clinical medicine and technology (frontline medical services) and construction and operation (back-end hospital infrastructure).
In the clinical medicine and technology segment, WDM, KUKA, and Midea Biomedical safeguard life through technology—delivering diagnostic and treatment services for departments such as radiology, operating rooms, medical technology centres, and outpatient pharmacies. We aim to make advanced treatments more accessible and help alleviate medical resource shortages in small and mid-sized hospitals through remote capabilities.
In the construction and operation segment, Swisslog Healthcare and Midea Building Technologies improve operational efficiency with smart hospital top-level design—integrating equipment supply and engineering services into outpatient clinics, pharmacies, inpatient wards, and command centres. We enable hospitals with the ability to perceive, think, and act.
To date, Midea Healthcare has served 16 of China's top 20 hospitals and 18 of the top 20 hospitals in the United States. Globally, we collaborate with over 100,000 hospitals and provide diagnostic recommendations to more than 7,000 hospitals in China—using the power of technology to Respect Every Second of Life.

5+2+X Technology Strategy
To accelerate the development of new quality productive forces in China's healthcare sector through technology leadership, Midea Healthcare officially launched its 5+2+X Technology Strategy at the "For More · For One" Strategy Upgrade Conference during the 89th China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) on 11 April 2024.
The 5+2+X Technology Strategy refers to collaborative innovation between Midea Healthcare's five medical business entities, Midea Central Research Institute (including the Medical Equipment Research Institute), and Midea AI Research Institute. Focusing on core, forward-looking, and shared technologies, the introduces multi-category product portfolios and multi-scenario solutions driven by "demand-oriented" and "digitisation & intelligence driven" approaches.
The strategy will be supported through a three-pronged approach—talent, systems, and investment—bringing in global top-tier talent to fast-track breakthroughs in key technologies and innovative products, shifting Midea Healthcare from a "follower" to a "leader" in the healthcare industry’s technological transformation. AI-powered cross-disciplinary research with medical science is a key pillar of this strategy. Midea's CT and MRI teams will collaborate closely with its AI team to integrate general-purpose AI algorithms with imaging device physics, delivering enhanced clinical outcomes.
At the same time, Midea Healthcare will use "technology leadership" to drive innovation in the "next-generation CT", "next-generation MRI", "next-generation AI imaging applications tailored to hospitals", "multi-category innovative products and applications", and "breakthroughs in key shared technologies". Its strategy includes building R&D capabilities in high-end medical equipment and shared technologies. For example, in MRI development, Midea is advancing both system-level R&D and in-house innovation of core components, mastering core technologies across the vertical chain to enable efficient and independent innovation.

Midea Healthcare anchors its operations across five key hospital scenarios: medical technology buildings, surgical departments, inpatient wards, outpatient pharmacies, and logistics command centres. It has built two core segments: clinical medicine and technology and construction and operation. In collaboration with strategic partners, Midea Healthcare is shaping a diversified medical ecosystem, exploring new partnership models, driving industrial transformation, and becoming both a driver and contributor to The Next One.
WDM possesses core technologies in CT, MRI, and X-ray imaging, and has launched the world’s first helium-free MRI system, breaking the industry's reliance on liquid helium. It also introduced China’s first full-spine digital radiography (DR) system, requiring only one-third the usual radiation dosage to complete a full-spine scan.
KUKA has over two decades of experience in surgical robotics R&D and application, delivering robotic solutions for radiotherapy assistance, surgical navigation, rehabilitation therapy, and patient positioning.
Midea Biomedical integrates two core cooling technologies—air-curtain cooling and ECO rapid cooling—in its biomedical refrigeration products. Even during frequent door openings, temperature fluctuation is controlled within ≤2°C, and uniformity maintained within ±1.5°C, ensuring safer sample storage.
Swisslog Healthcare focuses on transporting diverse materials within hospitals. Its pneumatic tube systems can reach speeds of 6–8 metres per second, saving critical time in emergency care.
Midea Building Technologies delivers end-to-end integrated solutions, combining software and hardware to empower smart hospital construction and transformation.

Backed by Midea's investment, Heyou Hospital officially opened in Beijiao, Shunde District, Foshan City, marking a new chapter in medical services. As one of China's representative smart, low-carbon, and high-efficiency hospitals, Heyou Hospital works in close collaboration with Midea Healthcare, introducing a wide range of advanced solutions including instant pharmaceutical delivery, precision imaging, intelligent infusion, and fall prevention, along with infant anti-theft, ICU anti-disconnection, and more—embodying the commitment to Respect Every Second of Life through Technology.

The new AIIO solution was also unveiled, enabling full-process connectivity and driving intelligence, digitalisation, and synergy across the medical landscape.

Midea acquired a controlling stake in WDM with an investment exceeding RMB 4 billion. This strategic move completed Midea Group's comprehensive healthcare layout, encompassing KUKA, WanDong, Swisslog Healthcare, and its own Midea Biomedical and Midea Building Technologies, forming a unified flagship team.
2018
The China operations of Swisslog Healthcare were integrated into Midea-KUKA Joint Venture, with Midea Group and Swisslog Healthcare each holding 50% equity in Shanghai Swisslog Healthcare Technology Co., Ltd., driving forward automation in hospital logistics and pharmacy systems.
2015
Midea Group acquired a 10.2% stake in global robotics leader KUKA through open-market investment, becoming its second-largest shareholder. Over the next seven years, Midea invested a total of RMB 30 billion to fully acquire and privatise KUKA.
